Well it is back to drawing basics here and thought I'd try to capture the rough texture and wrinkled skin of this elephant.  Going to work with graphite and characoal for a bit and try some different techniques that might translate into my pastel work.  Also think I'll try to work with graphite glazed with marker or colored pencil and see if I can get that soft color without getting muddy.

Wow, Nelvia, I thought you made a photo of an elephant to show us what your next project would be! But you made it yourself. That eye and his uh nose (..), well everything, it looks so real. Fantastic!!!!!!! Very, very well done!

Thanks for the feedback, as always it is an incentive. Sometimes the camera and posting it on here makes it look better, sort of like when you frame it, guess it just finishes it. My husband couldn't figure out why I just did half the elephant - only did that to try to get thge technique down. I am debating on whether to fix it and then put color on it or just leave well enough alone. Hmmmm

really nice, though - even if you hate me now for that:) - the tusk could have been bigger. but besides that I agree with Renate totally, it could have been an old photograph of an elephant.
besides I think it is more interesting the one half with the right eye in the center. very nice.
and do not color it it is a great picture.

A - no hate here, you saw what I was too close to, it was obvious but not to me. Just can't forget to show the feelings that made you want to put it on paper.
I too like the black and white and will stay there a while, but pretty soon I'm going to sneak the color back in. Am trying some experiments now to see if I can keep it clean with graphite.

DAY 19 Noise

Noise I have noticed, now that we live out of the hard core suburbia, how much we get quiet.  I mean actual quiet, no kids, no dogs, not cars, not motorcycles, no sirens, etc. etc.  How many waves, noise carrying waves, go through our bodies every day.   Phone, radio, tv, fiber optics, microwave, etc. etc.   Can that really be good for us? Anyway, I never know what I am going to get and this was a pretty quick one since I had a big time work day, for me.   But I got some really clean windows - am really ready for Fall, wish the temperature could understand how ready I really am for Fall!!. Nicolae's Giraffe Over the years we have decided the places we like to visit and have gone back multiple times.   In this day and age I think it is uncommon that in a hotel environment the workers would have been there 10-35 years.  So friendships develop.   Each of the people we have encountered have made our stays extra special in a variety of ways.   One of the ladies that works the check in desk had a baby last year.   Since we were unable to go in November we just saw her when we were in DC.   He is now 14 months, and in love with giraffes.  She has a yellow and gray nursery decor and I wanted to do a giraffe.   Wasn't sure if it should be the "kiddie" kind, but thought he might outgrow it.   So I decided to do one semi realistic so that he wouldn't outgrow it right away.  Aren't they just the strangest looking animal?
