The Golden Hour

Ok, I will admit it, I get frustrated being the good girl.  Yes, I persevered doing the still life and just needed to let loose.  So I finished this horse and it was just the right thing.  For me this is pretty loose and sketchy, but who cares.  I really like all the dusty atmosphere going on with this picture and appreciate Janina Suuronen's fabulous shot.  The color and shadows reminded me of the golden hour that painters and photographers look for in the morning and evening.  When the light is just really special.
I  pulled out some of my sanded paper, since I purchased a bit of "Wallis"-like paper at Cheap Joes when we were in Boone, NC and thought I'd try to get the feel of it again.  I forgot how much powder it produces.  Also forgot that I needed to go in with hard pastels first and then some of the softer ones.  Also I had issues with the Saral that I used for rough outlines in that the pastel didn't want to cover it. Don't remember having that issue before.

Love this! Lately I have this "thing" with horses!!! I have SO many reference photos ready to be painted!!!! You did a great job with this one....hope to see more!

I am not sure about horses up close and personal. It I have enjoys painting them. Can't wait to see what you do with yours my friend. As it happens I do,have another on the board.

Thanks much Val, I always love to hear what people see in a painting. One of the things I am working on is not giving all the clues which should make it more fun for the viewer t,determine the story.

Hey there always appreciate hearing what you think. I am glad you see a mystery. In reality there is a fence and great shadows from posts, but I liked just simplifying it.

DAY 19 Noise

Noise I have noticed, now that we live out of the hard core suburbia, how much we get quiet.  I mean actual quiet, no kids, no dogs, not cars, not motorcycles, no sirens, etc. etc.  How many waves, noise carrying waves, go through our bodies every day.   Phone, radio, tv, fiber optics, microwave, etc. etc.   Can that really be good for us? Anyway, I never know what I am going to get and this was a pretty quick one since I had a big time work day, for me.   But I got some really clean windows - am really ready for Fall, wish the temperature could understand how ready I really am for Fall!!. Nicolae's Giraffe Over the years we have decided the places we like to visit and have gone back multiple times.   In this day and age I think it is uncommon that in a hotel environment the workers would have been there 10-35 years.  So friendships develop.   Each of the people we have encountered have made our stays extra special in a variety of ways.   One of the ladies that works the check in desk had a baby last year.   Since we were unable to go in November we just saw her when we were in DC.   He is now 14 months, and in love with giraffes.  She has a yellow and gray nursery decor and I wanted to do a giraffe.   Wasn't sure if it should be the "kiddie" kind, but thought he might outgrow it.   So I decided to do one semi realistic so that he wouldn't outgrow it right away.  Aren't they just the strangest looking animal?
