Well finally I am going to call it done,  unless someone has some suggestion for improvement.  I am pretty happy with this as I said before as I think I caught the essence without trying to put in all the details (something that is a challenge for me).  I put up the original reference photo - how do you think I did at capturing the scene.  I always love your feedback as it usually makes me stop and think.

I always do a bit more studying when I am working on challenges and some of interesting the things I came across is that you should try to work in a series.  So I am going to give that a try and have selected a couple more of my photos from our Canadian trips that I am going to try to paint.  I want to go ahead and try to stay in this looser style and definitely experiment with the underpainting colors.  Again I came across some pastel advice where you should put 3 different yellows and blues as the block in colors.   I do like Will Kemp's idea though of putting colors in on different layers.  Start with the darkest, add whites, do blues and greens, then reds - at least that is how I remember it - better relook at the videos again.

So yes I am getting twitchy about doing a pastel as well.  I got my iridescent colors that I am just going to have to try.  But I also want to do a better portrait of Avery - but I am vacillating  of doing her in pastel or acrylic, so ... not sure what subject I'll pick, maybe another horse??

A remarkable Painting - well done Nelvia! I like that you got the horse to be less silhouetted and subdued the background a bit so that the horse and buggy are the focal point. super piece!

Thanks much Val. Glad,that you tied the little changes that I think make it a stronger piece. Tried to use the golden mean, and while neither horse and buggy are directly on intersection the shape is and I think reads well. I ended up adding noise in the street and strengthening the light behind the horse and think that solved my corner issue as eye is pulled to horse and carriage. Since that is what you saw it must have worked.

DAY 19 Noise

Noise I have noticed, now that we live out of the hard core suburbia, how much we get quiet.  I mean actual quiet, no kids, no dogs, not cars, not motorcycles, no sirens, etc. etc.  How many waves, noise carrying waves, go through our bodies every day.   Phone, radio, tv, fiber optics, microwave, etc. etc.   Can that really be good for us? Anyway, I never know what I am going to get and this was a pretty quick one since I had a big time work day, for me.   But I got some really clean windows - am really ready for Fall, wish the temperature could understand how ready I really am for Fall!!. Nicolae's Giraffe Over the years we have decided the places we like to visit and have gone back multiple times.   In this day and age I think it is uncommon that in a hotel environment the workers would have been there 10-35 years.  So friendships develop.   Each of the people we have encountered have made our stays extra special in a variety of ways.   One of the ladies that works the check in desk had a baby last year.   Since we were unable to go in November we just saw her when we were in DC.   He is now 14 months, and in love with giraffes.  She has a yellow and gray nursery decor and I wanted to do a giraffe.   Wasn't sure if it should be the "kiddie" kind, but thought he might outgrow it.   So I decided to do one semi realistic so that he wouldn't outgrow it right away.  Aren't they just the strangest looking animal?
