Before the Storm

                                                                 Before the Storm
                                                                       20"x11"
                                                                       Acrylic
One of the best things about having multiple pictures on the board is that when I get focused I can get things completed.  I did the flower yesterday and then decided to work on this a bit and before I knew it, it was complete.   I must say however that I did agonize over the sky and clouds.  Guess it just needs more practice.
I took this black and white shot, from  Amelia at PMP, and blued it up to try to capture the mood of the storm before it hits.  But I really love the wave action and the power of this piece.  I can almost hear the waves breaking, booming against the rocks and hear the thunder rolling in the background.  Listen.
For me, this is an unusual size, I am going to play with the crop and might go smaller, say 10"x20" as  really wanted that panorama feel to this piece.
Got to play with the palette knife with the rocks on this piece - worked the colors into the rocks and then washed them with darker colors to knock them back since there isn't much sun in this piece. Of course in the reference they were just black blobs.  Do you think they need to get knocked back farther?
Thanks for stopping by and have a super day.

You have this water thing down pat! See nothing wrong with the sky and clouds either.

I did listen... yes... I do hear it!
I love the palette knife rocks.
I think the rocks are great and don't need any more work. Great mood piece, Nelvia

Hi Helen, glad you hear those waves. Their constant 24/7 movement need ceases to intrigue me

Thanks Nancy, always good to have my first instincts validated. Making it more narrow doesn't really give it a stronger impact.

I guess the secret to clouds is a very light touch for the blending. Getting those soft edge blends seems easier with the interactive acrylics as you can reset. Still think I am not using enough paint. More practice I think.
