Butterfly Wings

As you probably already know I am fascinated with fairies.  I haven't drawn a lot of them, but decided that a fairy with butterfly wings would be perfect for this week's DPW challenge, which is butterflies.
I used a terra-cotta statute shot from Steve Lyddon and the wings of an actual butterfly from a beautiful Sandy Scott photo, both of these fabulous photographers are on PMP.   They both have some terrific reference shots available for use royalty free.  Steve also is an accomplished artist as well as a photographer.

Well to be honest I couldn't get that excited about doing a butterfly on a flower.  I don't have anything again either of these subjects, just don't find them inspiring.  I have followed some books and have seen some of the fairy painters add real butterfly wings to their subjects.  So thought was a great opportunity to do so for this challenge.  I also decided to try to make her more life-like and not leave her as a statute.  Had a lot of fun doing this and just love her sweet expression.

thanks much for stopping by and hope you have a s super week.
