                                                        Colored Pencil/touch of Pastel
It has been couple of years since I did my first eagle.  I was extremely lucky to sell that piece which was eventually used for a book cover.  They are such stately, though violent, being birds of prey.  I like most birds, we have  multiple varieties that come to our feeders and they really have personalities, even within the same species and families - just like us.  It is amazing too, just like cats and dogs, they have done a really good job of training us.
I really liked this photo from Sandy Scott, one of my favorite Florida nature photographers who kindly shares his work on PMP.  He lives not from where I used to live in Pinellas County.  Anyway I just loved the direct confrontational look that this juvenile is giving us.  Yep, the eyes, they really are the windows to the soul and already you can tell this girl, female of course, has attitude.  Believe me, this is a big, in-your-face portrait.
I just can't seem to stick faithfully to just single colored pencil.  Since I am working on the colored paper it dulls down colors, especially the whites.  And since birds have the fluffy feel to their feathers it just seems right that it should be hit in places with some pastel accents.  As you know though working with multiple layers of colored pencil creates a slick waxy surface so there was some delicate scrapping going on to roughen up the paper surface to accent and hold some pastel.
Thanks much for stopping by and hope your week is going well.

Absolutely stunning! Sandy should be honored. Great job - wouldn't want to mess with her!
This is very good and sounds like a lot of works with the scrapping. One question - which raptor is it? I thought that Bald Eagles didn't have white heads until maturity so if this is one. the title doesn't fit. Have a great weekend, Nelvia.
