Freckles

Freckles

I am calling this one Freckles, although I am sure she wouldn't like the title.  I still working on values so tried this second lesson from Kara Bullocks, whose Lets Face It course I am going to take in 2019.  Been having lots of issues with the wifi here, so not sure how long it is going to last this time.  I think it is because they are cutting into the lines adding all these new houses the developments are throwing up.   Grrrrr!!

Anyway I started this one with a picture where I drew lines, angles and a square.   It really very quickly sold me where things were in relation to each other, helped to judge the side depths and the chin lines.   Think this is definitely going to be the way to go.  Only issues is the wifi going off and on and also my preview wants to freeze up, so got to try to figure out what is going on with that.   Think if it continues I might have to go to the Best Buy and see if I can get a geek to see what is going on.  I can't get wifi on my desktop, but we can get on our pads, and then of course, we can't get it anywhere.  Sigh - I am getting up on the wrong side of the techie bed these last days!!

Then I used  a cardboard piece to work on.  Because of the ribs you instantly get texture when the charcoal is applied.  I also used ivory nupastel and a very light pink for the highlights - decided to add the light pink because I thought it would help make smoother transitions between the brown and ivory.  Also used the ivory because again it wasn't as sharp as the white and it really didn't tend to mix and make the gray as I slid over the freckles.

Thanks much for taking a look.

Wow! You did a great job on the facial proportions and I love the striped ribs of the cardboard giving this an added dimension. It is nice to see the texture the cardboard gives where the pastel is used. Well done! Sorry you are having wifi problems. Hope that gets resolved soon for you.

Wonderful portrait. I will take Let's Face It next year. I signed up Painting Heart and Soul. I hope to improve on portraiture as well. I mix my own black, raw umber and ultramarine blue... to help make your values. She has a great expression!

I thought the cardboard was an interesting look, of course since we seem to buy more from Amazon seems like we will.have and endless supply.

I am looking at the FB group page and am so inspired by all the things people are doing. So many actually have done 2-3 years in a row and the growth and improvement is amazing
This is a fascinating piece Nelvia. The texture of the cardboard makes a a great background. Too bad about the wifi - hope you get it sorted.

Ugghhh! Wi-fi problems here today. And more for me than anyone else in the house. Makes no sense.
She is wonderful! I love the cardboard, and her eyes are so intoxicating Nelvia! Beautiful work :)
