Princess Watercolor Portrait



 Here is today's experiment in watercolor.   As you know I have been trying to learn GIMP.   The goal is that I then could build my compositions from multiple pictures, have a preview of what it would look like, and then be able to choose color schemes.  Now that is pretty ambitious for a non-techie person, but that is where I would like to go.

So as a pretty simplistic beginning I combined the photos below into the composition above.  I did use ink for the circles, and do see that I really need to work on my ink skills.  I really like the art nouveau/art deco period for design and fashion so would like to be able to get better at reproducing patterns.

I also did just the little tweaking of adding oil to this piece.   That is supposed to help smooth out the face a bit.   I have used oil with acrylics, but never thought, of course not, to combine them with watercolor.   Just the little touches as you don't want to paint over everything that is watercolor and loose it's unique look.

Awesome Nelvia :) High five for persistence! You can do the lines with a rigger brush. Just an idea, but they look great to me ;) my circles always turn out more oval, Haha. :) Beautiful, delicate and sweet :)

Very lovely Nelvia! Good for you expanding your use of Gimp; I only use it to crop and tweak the photos of my art. This painting is charming and the watercolour is really looking good!

I love how you combined the images for this! Was this done on watercolor paper? I'm surprised that you were able to get a smooth application of oil without it staining in one spot. Nice experimenting!

DAY 19 Noise

Noise I have noticed, now that we live out of the hard core suburbia, how much we get quiet.  I mean actual quiet, no kids, no dogs, not cars, not motorcycles, no sirens, etc. etc.  How many waves, noise carrying waves, go through our bodies every day.   Phone, radio, tv, fiber optics, microwave, etc. etc.   Can that really be good for us? Anyway, I never know what I am going to get and this was a pretty quick one since I had a big time work day, for me.   But I got some really clean windows - am really ready for Fall, wish the temperature could understand how ready I really am for Fall!!. Nicolae's GF Laughing Giraffe mixed media portrait

Nicolae's Giraffe Over the years we have decided the places we like to visit and have gone back multiple times.   In this day and age I think it is uncommon that in a hotel environment the workers would have been there 10-35 years.  So friendships develop.   Each of the people we have encountered have made our stays extra special in a variety of ways.   One of the ladies that works the check in desk had a baby last year.   Since we were unable to go in November we just saw her when we were in DC.   He is now 14 months, and in love with giraffes.  She has a yellow and gray nursery decor and I wanted to do a giraffe.   Wasn't sure if it should be the "kiddie" kind, but thought he might outgrow it.   So I decided to do one semi realistic so that he wouldn't outgrow it right away.  Aren't they just the strangest looking animal?
