DAY 10 Ribbons Abstract

DAY 10, wow it seems to be flying by this challenge, ok I didn't get in until late, so I guess hitting my personal wall will be later as well.  Again, this is another mixed media piece, I guess that is correct when it includes some collage.  I tried the little print and wasn't happy with the result but decided to tear it up and use it in some abstract pieces.  The rest is all paint, and I used some stencils to jazz up the pure white areas.

Thanks much for stopping by.

Color is always what catches my eyes first in a piece and the interesting gold shape in this one really pulled me in. Something about its directional importance, the gorgeous marks within it...very effective juxtaposed against the sea of black, blue and white. And then the eye drifts upward to the red and intriguing marks there...nice work!

Thank you so much Laurelle for such great feedback, it helps me to learn about what people see when they look at abstract. I am really surprised at how many people like it and never could figure it out. I didn't know this was even in me, so am having a blast trying to set it free. Thanks again.

I like your combination of strokes for movement and the pops of color with the gold and red. Nice!!

Thanks Joan, sure wish I knew what I was doing. I am enjoying the color combinations
This is great Nelvia! The best thing about abstract is that it leaves so much to the viewer's eye - we all see something different. I like the gold leading to the light blue circle which I see as the focal point. It looks like you are having fun with this style even if you don't feel like you know what you are doing - go for it!

Look at that beauty! I'm always afraid of using black, but this looks so luscious that it makes me want to get out my black tube and play with it. Strong and beautiful.

Love the application of the paint. Especially the light blue over dark. Love the things that are happening there. Very eye catching :)

Yes, I think that is really what people like Val. I am surprise at who likes abstract and everyone can tell you something different. I am having fun, it is very freeing but I do feel pretty lost. I am watching videos but each does his own and nothing is really clarified. But I fear you really can begin to repeat yourself and that would definitely be boring.

Thanks for taking a look Carol, yes I am always surprised at what comes out of the paper.

Thank you so much Robie. I don't usually use straight black, always try to mix it with something else. But here is is black, but doesn't look dead because I think there are so many other things going on.

Thank goodness for stryofoam. We got boxes with it and I didn't throw it all away. It makes a bit of a stamper until the little balls fall out or go flat. Used stencils for most of the white parts, just kept putting layers on so it kind of stands above the rest of the paint. Never know where it is going to go, but like the adventure of getting there. My hubby, he's just rolling his eyeballs at this point!!
